ºÚÁÏÍø Donates Over $30,000 to Community Organizations

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – July 17, 2024 – Michigan Schools and Government Credit Union (ºÚÁÏÍø) recently donated a total of $30,800 to three community partners on behalf of its members. The donations are a result of a special promotion the Credit Union launched last year, in which ºÚÁÏÍø offered to donate $50 on behalf of members who opened a new checking account and fulfilled various criteria over time.

To help those who serve others, ºÚÁÏÍø provided over $10,000 each to local organizations that support first responders or schools. The Credit Union selected organizations in alignment with its mission and dedication to education and first responders.

The American Lung Association in Michigan will use the donation to fund lung disease and lung cancer medical research, lung health education, and more. Their mission aligns with firefighters because of their increased exposure to gases, chemicals, and smoke.

“Your generous contribution will play a vital role in advancing our objectives here in Michigan. Every dollar will go a long way in supporting our initiatives and making a positive impact on the lives of many,” said Shannon Proctor, The American Lung Association in Michigan Executive Director. “Together, we can amplify our mission of promoting lung health and advocating for clean air, making a tangible difference in our community.”

Blessings in a Backpack received a donation to help mobilize communities, individuals, and resources to provide food on the weekends for school-aged children who might otherwise go hungry. They partner with local school districts in Michigan to meet the needs of students identified for the reduced or free lunch program.

“The Community Foundation of Greater Rochester’s Blessings in a Backpack programs would like to thank Michigan Schools and Government Credit Union…” said Cheryl Whitton, Blessings in a Backpack Regional Advisor. “The donation will be divided between 11 programs where ºÚÁÏÍø has branch offices and will provide 16,116 weekend meals to hunger insecure children.”

Michigan Concerns of Police Survivors (MI-C.O.P.S.) will use their funds to provide resources to surviving families and co-workers of Michigan law enforcement officers lost in the line of duty. This includes community awareness, grief counseling, and support.

“MI-C.O.P.S. wants to thank Michigan Schools and Government Credit Union for your recent donation,” stated Brian Rendon, MI-C.O.P.S. Board of Directors President, in a letter to the Credit Union. “…We will be able to provide the resources to train law enforcement agencies on survivor victimization issues and educate the public of the need to support the law enforcement profession and its survivors.”

These donations are a result of their support, and we appreciate how they took action to make a difference,” said Steve Brewer, ºÚÁÏÍø President/CEO. “ºÚÁÏÍø follows the credit union philosophy of people helping people, and we are dedicated to serving others through special programs like this one as part of our ongoing community giving efforts.”

ºÚÁÏÍø also provides financial support through its annual Giving Back initiative, where each branch office selects a local organization to receive a $1,000 donation. Funds are presented to various organizations to support their efforts of making our communities a better place, including local fire and police departments.

As a Credit Union founded by educators 70 years ago, making an impact in the lives of local teachers and students is another way ºÚÁÏÍø gives back. Each year, more than $150,000 is awarded in scholarships and grants through ºÚÁÏÍø’s annual scholarship and programs.
