ºÚÁÏÍø provides eclipse glasses to Ann Arbor Public Schools

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – April 10, 2024 – Michigan Schools and Government Credit Union (ºÚÁÏÍø) announced that the organization donated 20,000 pairs of eclipse glasses to Ann Arbor Public Schools to ensure students and staff could safely experience the solar eclipse.

ºÚÁÏÍø learned that Ann Arbor Public Schools was developing curriculum around the eclipse and the district needed support with safely implementing the viewing portion of the eclipse, which happened at school dismissal time. The credit union recognized this was a powerful and rare learning opportunity for students and wanted to help the district bring its curriculum plans to life through the donation.

“ºÚÁÏÍø was founded by teachers 70 years ago, and the credit union is dedicated to making a positive impact in the lives of students and educators in the communities we serve,” said Steve Brewer, ºÚÁÏÍø President/CEO. “This is a historic and memorable event for students, and we are proud to support their safe participation through our donation to Ann Arbor Public Schools.”

Ann Arbor Public Schools provided an impactful learning experience for its students with help from ºÚÁÏÍø’s donation. Special space lesson plans were created for elementary school teachers, and middle and high school students received grade-level appropriate details about the eclipse, including safety information.

“The Ann Arbor Public Schools would like to thank Michigan Schools and Government Credit Union for their generous donation of solar eclipse glasses for all of our students, teachers and staff,” said Interim Superintendent Jazz Parks. “Thanks to their generous support, our students and staff were able to safely witness the rare solar eclipse, creating a memorable and educational experience for everyone.”

ºÚÁÏÍø also supports educators and classrooms through various programs, including that fund innovative project ideas, special loans designed for classroom purchases, scholarship opportunities, and financial literacy programs that support curriculum needs. To help teachers and students, ºÚÁÏÍø offers classroom presentations, and financial Reality Fairs that are designed to build strong foundations for students’ money management skills. ºÚÁÏÍø also offers free in-person and virtual workshops for community members to promote financial wellness.

ºÚÁÏÍø is connected to the Ann Arbor community through its branch office on West Stadium Boulevard, south of Liberty, as well as its Saline branch office on Michigan Avenue, east of State Street. ºÚÁÏÍø invites anyone in Michigan to join the credit union and new members can open an account online or in person at any of its 22 convenient locations in Southeast Michigan.
